Activities

Hanifaru Fishing Trip invites exotic and sport fishing enthusiasts from around the world to discover the extraordinary richness of the coral reefs of the Indian Ocean, in the heart of the Maldivian archipelago.

We offer fishing holidays with accommodation and full board at highly competitive rates. While we are primarily based in Baa Atoll, we also benefit from an extensive network throughout the Maldives, allowing us to organise fishing trips across the entire archipelago.

Before your departure, we work closely with you to design your itinerary day by day, entirely according to your wishes, expectations, and preferred style of travel.

During your stay, you will be able to choose from a wide variety of fishing techniques as well as numerous additional activities. Together, we will create a fully tailor-made experience that will undoubtedly live up to your expectations.

And because nothing is ever set in stone with us, you will always have the freedom to adjust the planned programme once you are on site, whether due to weather conditions or simply your own changing preferences.

On Kendhoo, our home base, you will stay in a single or double room at Dhoani Guest House, a modern, spotless, welcoming, and friendly establishment offering excellent cuisine, whether traditional or continental, prepared by an experienced chef.

We understand that our guests are, above all, passionate anglers who love the unforgettable scream of a reel drag under pressure. Each day, depending on your preferences, we will head out in search of the predators that inhabit our waters.

Giant Trevally (GT), Bluefin Trevally, Black Trevally, Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, Red Snapper, Dogtooth Tuna, Grouper, Marlin, Wahoo, Goldneck Trevally, Barracuda, and many other predators can be found here throughout the year.

You will have the opportunity to practise the techniques you enjoy most, including jigging, slow jigging, popping, crankbait fishing, stickbait fishing, trolling, spinning, madai, live bait fishing, deep jigging, fly fishing, surfcasting, and more.

For those wishing to immerse themselves more deeply in the local culture, we also offer the opportunity to experience traditional fishing methods such as pole and line fishing—either by chartering a boat privately for your group or by joining a team of traditional fishermen who will gladly share their expertise with you.

Whatever type of fishing you choose, you will be accompanied by an experienced local guide—our main guide is Usman—who will take you to the best spots in the area, depending on the techniques used and the species you wish to target.

For experienced anglers, our guide is a real added value, helping refine techniques and deepen understanding of the behaviour of local predatory fish. He also takes great pleasure in assisting beginners, offering guidance throughout each fishing session and helping with tackle setups and rigs.

At Hanifaru Fishing Trip, you will also have the chance to try pole spear fishing (underwater hunting with a pole spear, without a speargun), night squid fishing in the lagoon, lobster hunting, learning how to identify octopus dens, and even catching octopus by hand. All of this is done under the guidance of one of our young local experts, who will introduce you to new styles of fishing and help you become an efficient underwater hunter. Step by step, they will guide you to the best spots to put these new skills into practice.

Our fishing grounds are incredibly varied—almost limitless: remote submerged reefs, deep offshore waters, deserted islands, sandbanks lost in the middle of the ocean, productive drop-offs, and fish-filled channels and passes.

Our guides know the area inside out. Without a doubt, they will help you enjoy truly unforgettable fishing sessions and will remain entirely at your disposal throughout your stay, supporting and advising you every step of the way.

You can enjoy your favourite activity from a speedboat for quick access to feeding action, from wide and stable boats ideal for jigging and popping, from a kayak, or directly from the shore, standing ankle-deep in crystal-clear water on a deserted island or a remote sandbank.

The Hanifaru Fishing Trip team also offers guests the chance to fulfil their dream of adventure by experiencing wild island life on a deserted island. Accompanied by our guide, you will be dropped off on a remote island where you will learn the basic skills of island survival. You will fish for your own food, catch octopus and other resources, and, if you wish, spend the night under a tent—or even under the stars, in the middle of nowhere, on your own deserted island.

Following an initial discussion, we will plan your trip as closely as possible around your expectations, ensuring a truly personalised experience.

With Hanifaru Fishing Trip, you can also enjoy a wide range of additional activities designed to enhance your stay—or to ensure that those travelling with you, even if they are not primarily focused on fishing, can fully enjoy the beauty of the Maldives as well.

Among other things, we can offer you the chance to spend time in the facilities of a luxury resort, sipping a cocktail by the pool (alcohol in the Maldives is only permitted on resort islands). You may also enjoy snorkelling excursions on magnificent reefs, swimming with turtles, or head out to encounter Whale Sharks and the peaceful, elegant Manta Raysin the protected waters of Hanifaru Bay, accompanied by a licensed guide.

In all honesty and humility, the range of services available on site is even broader than that offered by luxury resorts—while remaining, of course, far more affordable.

For those who wish to explore greater depths, scuba diving with a certified instructor is also available, and you may even take the opportunity to earn diving certifications or refresh your existing qualifications.

For guests who enjoy watersports and adrenaline-filled activities, we also offer jet skiing, banana boat rides, and inflatable tube rides towed by speedboat. Those who prefer gentler experiences can enjoy kayaking, sailing, or paddleboarding.
